Experience
I grew up in Mustang, OK, and graduated valedictorian, a member of National Honors Society, an Oklahoma Academic Scholar, National Merit Commended, as well as an active member of the choir and band programs. I played oboe in our wind ensemble, baritone sax in our jazz band, and was head drum major of the MHS Nightrider Marching Band. I went to the University of Central Oklahoma on full academic scholarship as well as receiving scholarships from the School of Music. I majored in Musical Theatre Performance with a minor in jazz studies and played lead tenor sax in one of our jazz bands. Throughout my own schooling I always enjoyed helping my fellow students and that translated well into tutoring in college and as an adult. As a substitute teacher and private tutor, I’ve found that English Lit, Creative Writing, and Reading are my favorite subjects. I also absolutely love getting into History, Humanities, and Art. Math and Science were the subjects I struggled with the most as a student. Finding creative ways to work with these subjects has made me especially prepared to tutor other students struggling in those areas. I absolutely believe that knowledge is power. I believe that, other than treating others with kindness and respect, the best thing you can do for your future is to arm yourself with as much knowledge as possible over as many topics as you can. I enjoy learning new things and love helping others to enjoy the process of gaining knowledge as well. I will use everything including humor, games, analogies and pop culture references to make sure that not only will information be understood, but will be absorbed in a way that remains long after the test it is being memorized for.
